OUR HISTORY

Disability Training Services H.B. Trust Board was initially formed in 1986 under the name of Hawke's Bay Community Enterprises (Inc). The Trust has been operating from Austin Street, Onekawa in Napier from 1987. The present name change was set in 1995 with the formation of a CharitableTrust. Since the organisations inception twenty years ago,  it has been sponsored and supported by Central Government with specific outcomes and objectives.

OUR COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION PROGRAMME
 
 
The Community Participation programme aims to work along side people to achieve their goals; we support people to become independent in all areas of their lives.
We achieve this by;
 
  •  Supporting people to participate in community activies
  • Supporting people to increase their skills and make a contribution to their community
  • People have information to make their own choices
  • Link people with other services to provide the best possible support for people
  • Improve potentail for vocational outcome
  • We promote and encourage natural support
  • Working together towards independence
  • Postive working relationships are maintained with key personal in relevant organisations
  • Activies are available for clients that match their preferences, as outlined in their indiviual plan
  • All activities are well planned, documented, delivered and reviewed regularly
  • To become active and contributing members of their community 
The individualised programme is based on the client’s personal plan. Delivery is through interview to identify goals and needs of indivuals, visits to desired locations, provision of initial support with follow-up assessment of natural supports leading to independence.

EMPLOYMENT TRAINING

Over the past 12 months DTS has undergone a lot of changes externally and internally. With the closure of 3P Industries Ltd we have change the way we work. We now provide a specialised working environment for employment skills. We have structured this to provide work skill training and working opportunities with the goal to contribute to peoples lives leading to work in the community. Our emphasis is aimed at making employment possible for people with disabilities while at the same time offering a supportive program in all aspects of employment in the mainstream workforce.

Our emphasis is to have a professional image and to provide an excellent customer service to the Hawke's Bay community:

  • Light Engineering for regional provedoring merchant; eg. producing cray fish pots for the whole of the North Island and outlying islands (Chatham Islands), engineering work on vehicles, parts for industrial conveyer belts, trolley repair/servicing, etc.
  • Catering for local sports clubs
  • Woodwork for regional building trade and hardware market
  • Foam ends for packaging in telecommunications market only foam end manufacturer between Hamilton and Wellington
  • Car Cleaning for businesses fleets and community of HB
  • Mail packaging and mail outs for local businesses, Tertiary Education Providers, Real Estate Agents
  • Assembly of wire locks for the regional and national farmers community
  • Assembly for local hardware stores
